Brown Suede Jacket, White T-Shirt, Black Wide-Leg Trousers, Penny Loafers

Brown suede, waist length, worn open with the zip run the whole way down. That is the loudest piece in it and also the shortest. Under it a white cotton-jersey tee, untucked, hanging a few inches past the jacket, and a brown bridle leather belt showing where the tee falls away. The trousers are black cotton twill, pleated at the waist, wide the whole way down with no taper in them anywhere, and they break long over black penny loafers. He is standing at the kerb of a square in Malmö with his hands in both pockets and the low sun coming in sideways across the pastel blocks behind him.

All the volume is below the waist and the jacket refuses to join in, which is what makes the leg look chosen rather than borrowed. Brown at the shoulders, brown again at the waist, white in the gap between them, black from the hip to the floor. The suede is the only texture in the whole thing, so nothing else has to work. Swap the tee for a fine black knit and it goes darker and quieter. Swap the loafers for black boots and it survives the temperature dropping. Zip the jacket even halfway and the white line down the middle goes with it, and that line is what holds the two halves apart.
